Camping has long been a favorite leisure activity, as it provides both adventure and relaxation.

With the rising popularity of camping activities such as glamping, it is now easier than ever to get into the great outdoors and take in the sights and sounds of nature without giving up on creature comforts.

To make your camping experience even better, you need to be equipped with the right gear!

So, here is my check list for your preparation:

The Right Gear - Checklist

Essentials you need to bring along: When choosing camping gear, the first step is to stock up on all the essential items that will come in handy when exploring nature’s wild side.

  1. Tents are a must to protect you from inclement weather and those pesky bugs. Be sure to select the right size tent for you and your family along with enough storage for your other camping gear. Also be sure to choose the right tent of rthe weather conditions you will be facing while in the great outdoors. Be sure to checkout our articles on the best 2 person tents, family tents with screened porches, waterproof tents and canvas tents!
  2. Sleeping Bags for a comfortable night's sleep (choose ones rated for your anticipated temperature range),  along with a pad or air mattress to even out and soften the campground sure make the whole camping experience that much better!
  3. A good ground cover or tarp to help you and your gear dry from the rain. Can also be used as a source of shade when strung with rope among trees.
  4. Proper clothing in appropriate layers for each of the days camping.  Be sure to bring along a waterproof outer layer and a hat for both rain and sun protection.
  5. Footwear for lounging around the campfire and for hiking is essential. Doesn't hurt to have an extra pair should you encounter wet conditions.
  6. A good heat source for preparing meals such as firewood with a grate or a portable camp stove. (don't forget the lighter or matches!) Remember to pack the marsh mellows, chocolate and graham crackers for the must have smores!
  7. Cooking utensils such as pots and pans are also necessary when preparing meals along with a good camp knife.
  8. A cooler is recommended for storing food, water and other drinks - together with plates/utensils that can be conveniently stored away when not needed.
  9. Headlamps and flashlights also prove to be indispensable when things start getting dark; they can help you find your way around camp after dark without walking into anything or making too much noise.  Having a flashlight can help keep everyone safe during camping trips. I always have a few extra ones in case batteries run low or out, I especially like to hang one in my tent for when lighting is needed.
  10. A First Aid Kit just in case someone needs bandaging or other help.
  11. Camping chairs for comfortable sitting along the fire or just relaxing observing the wild surroundings with a collapsible portable table to keep items off the ground and away from bugs.
  12. A Cell phone with a backup power source or battery to record your experience and to stay connected. In addition, a great source for location information and GPS or compass apps to prevent from getting lost while hiking in the wildness. Make sure you fully charge a day or two before heading out to your favorite camping spot.
  13. Toiletries for cleaning and grooming along with sunscreen and mosquito repellent. Staying clean and having protection from the sun and those blood sucking mosquitos is a must!

and some of my favorites:

  1. My hammock with mosquito netting for chilling out and that afternoon nap! Lightweight and compact today's hammocks are no trouble transporting or setting up.
  2. A pair of binoculars for checking out the wildlife and scanning for what's happening out on the waters!
  3. My fishing g should they be biting! Not much better than fresh fish over the campfire!

There you have it, my camping checklist for nearly every camping outing I go out on.

Should you have other items for consideration please be sure sure to send me an email with your favorites!
